Port of Zelda: 2nd haven

This is Zelda. I like the color purple, and soft rainy days. The clear sky after rain is always the most beautiful. Calpis (KARUPISU) water is my favorite. Manga, anime and games are awesome but sadly I lack the time to follow them regularly. I love to draw. I'm a self-employed freelance illustrator and comic artist. I love my mother and sister. I'm always grateful for their existence and selfless support. I love my niece Yaya and nephew Kadyn, for they are the most precious.

Thanatos Character description

(the not so useful description…XD)

Thanatos was born along with Hypnos, his twin brother by Nyx, the primordial deity, darkness of Night. As a child, Thanatos challenged Fate and protected his brother. Growing up despised by most other deities, Thanatos wandered aimlessly until Hades decided to take him in.  Thanatos saw Hades as his savior and became loyal to him ever since.

Thanatos has the quality to mesmerize both mortal men and women so that they follow him willingly down into the Underworld when it’s their time to go.

Hephaestus character description

Hephaestus, the god of fire was highly delicate and weak from his birth, like a flame would arise out of a little spark and could easily be extinguished.  Hera, was so desperate for a perfect child so Zeus would pay more attention and favor her child over Athena.  Hera’s wish was shattered when she saw the weak and unhealthy little form of Hephaestus.  She locked him away for a long time, and later abandoned him.  Water Goddess Thetis took him in and raised him as her own. Thetis saw lots of hope and kindness in Hephaestus.

Hephaestus grew up strong but lame, due to the injury caused by Hera’s abandonment. However, being born with the ability to create, he made himself a leg and never gave up on the hope of seeing his mother again one day.

Heph is usually very easy going, even-tempered, kind, and generous.  He is in charge of making everyone’s “gadgets” after the Cyclops went away.  Hephaestus treasures Aphrodite and does everything he could to keep her happy, so he makes lots of pretty things for Aphrodite…

(….Don’t miss out this seasons’s hottest fashion girdle~ by the famous designer Hephaestus… XD)

Ares character description

Ares was born with a destructive, aggressive and reckless personality.  He enjoys seeing others suffer, and claims Aphrodite as his “property”.  Ares sees Hephaestus as a threat instead of a brother, sees himself as the winner because Aphrodite chooses him over Hephaestus. *can’t reveal too much on their relationship yet.

As tough as he is, Ares can’t handle tears (especially Aphrodite’s).
He acts by instinct and could be quite naive and clueless at times.

**Eris (and his other sister Hebe) is very minor and may or may not play a role in any MYth story.

Athena character description

Athena was born with a purpose that only she knew. Highly mysterious because she rarely open up to anyone.  Athena knows Zeus better than anyone else because he consults her all the time (even regarding his most personal issues). Athena don’t put on much expression because she rarely feel the need to. She has a very clear rational mind and speaks only when necessary.

Athena dislike foolish and/or reckless behaviors, and she also dislike being bothered when she’s having her tea or when she’s relaxing with her companion Nike and pet owl…

*Athena’s birth in MYth: Zeus had many dreams of a little girl and with each dream the little girl was growing up. The girl seemed very strong-willed and wise. Eventually Zeus realized the girl resembled Metis, and he reached out to her, but before he could get a hold of her, he woke up and young Athena was by his side.

Aphrodite character description

Born and raised by Pontus, Aphrodite grew up to be a very generous being with a bright and friendly personality. Unfortunately she wasn’t very clever, and so one day Pontus decided to let her go in order for Aphrodite to learn new things on her own. She arrived at the Olympian palace by herself and the first one to meet her was Athena.  During her “first days” at Mt. Olympus, Aphrodite rely on Athena a lot and Athena always look out for her.

Aphrodite has the ability to arouse desire in others. She gradually learns how to control such power.  She has a pure heart and often fails to understand her own desires.  (again, not very clever… *sorry! Aphrodite!!O__O )

Hermes character description.

Hermes is the youngest god in MYth (or at least young at heart…XD). Little Hermes is just as hard-working as Delphin. Unfortunately, unlike Delphin who is in charge of Poseidon most of the time, Hermes is the one being ordered around by Zeus (and many others deities older than him).

Being the “kid”, Hermes likes to make jokes and sometime prank the others as a form of revenge for making him overwork…

Artemis Description

Artemis grew up with affection and sense of responsibility for her twin brother Apollo, who is rather childish.  Artemis was chosen by Selene as assistant and apprentice. While Apollo was chosen by Helios. Fate forbids the union between Sun and Moon. They are to be paired but always opposite of each other.

Artemis used to be very girly and shy, until one day she made up her mind to become tough and independent in order to cut off a very special attachment.

The nymphs are the private army of Artemis. They go around making sure the safety of young maidens and guard the mountain and its natural treasures from thieves.

Apollo description

Apollo possesses the charm and grace of his father Zeus, and has been the main entertainer of Mt. Olympus. His radiance attracted Helios and so was chosen to become his assistant and apprentice.  There Helios taught Apollo healing skills and knowledge in medicine.

Apollo act like an “over protective big brother”, when he is really the younger one. He cares about Artemis a lot and he is not afraid to show it.  Mostly his action embarrasses Artemis and naturally he receives very cold reply from his “adorable sister”.

Apollo is also attracted to pretty young lads. He think of them as his biggest inspiration in poem and music.

Delphin character description.  (and little back story)
(not really a character sheet since it takes longer to make…sorry Orz)

Delphin was only a baby when Poseidon saved him from the deadly whirlpool of the sea monster Charybdis.  Delphin’s family perished.

Poseidon felt responsible for Delphin’s loss because he created Charybdis.  Poseidon raised Delphin and eventually revealed the truth about Delphin’s family; he explained how he was the one to blame. Delphin went through a phase of disbelief, anger, sadness… At last Delphin realized being with Poseidon for so long, he knew the God of Sea better than anyone else. He witnessed how much Poseidon would risk to protect the ones he loved, and so he scrapped his anger and accepted his admiration for Poseidon.

After becoming Poseidon’s ”prime minister” and concubine  (I’m joking!!!!!)  Delphin was entitled the prince of dolphins by Poseidon.

Delphin is very hard working and quite serious most of the time.

He dislikes procrastination and likes to get things done ASAP.

OC from my manga: “Record of Time”

(c) Zelda C. Wang

“Yes, Zeus. We are immortal. We don’t ever die. But Rhea’s presence was shattered by Hades. Her fragments now lay with Mother Gaia, where she’ll be taken care of.” —Metis. [MYth: A Promise]

I once read from a great Taiwanese comic artist’s blog… she was experimenting with various types of stories and she spends a lot of time develop and revising her stories to make sure it makes sense. She mentioned types of characters: animal, human, super-human (human with super powers), fantasy creatures, and gods.  Out of all those, Gods are most difficult to create stories with if you try to maintain all the godly features a “god” is supposed to have.  It’s nice to have a godly character in a story as a support for your main heroic human character, but the story will suck if a god IS the main character. Imagine: God isn’t supposed to go through any frustration, despair, adventure, and a god doesn’t have any fear, and the worst is that a god doesn’t DIE, and so nothing in the story could possibly threaten or endanger the godly character.  What kind of story will you have??

I thought I was lucky since I have a story about Greek gods, because unlike most gods/deities in Asian culture, Greek Gods are almost human-like…they have emotions. They possess the feeling of happiness, anger, jealousy, sadness, and even lust.  I remember once reading a Greek Mythology book which introduced the gods as “almost the same as us humans, only except they are much more powerful and immortal.”

Mortality is probably the only problem I ran across while planning the stories of MYth.  Death is usually a major element of fear for characters in a story.  When the gods have nothing to fear, it makes the plots very weak.  It also makes any fighting or threats unnecessary and pointless.  I gave this issue a lot of thoughts.  Then a statement from my cool English professor reminded me… he said “Mythology is a religion that people no longer believe in or worship”.  Even in the classic mythology many deities just slowly fade away.  What happens to those gods/goddesses?  Right after the Titanomachy, more than half of the Titans’ whereabouts were lost. (surely they couldn’t have been “killed” by the Olympians…)  So I decided to create a place for the lost deities in the universe of my comic “MYth”. Great Mother Gaia is the mother of all.  Lost deities also make their way back to her. It’s like the recycling of spirits, forces, and power. It will be Gaia’s choice if she wants the lost deities to come back…

Gods are immortal, they can’t be killed by mere humans. However, I think it makes sense when it’s god v.s. god, one should have the power to wipe out the other?

I guess I cheated a little on this mortality issue.  In essence, I gave them a different form of “dying”.  It’s a “godly style” death unlike the humans. No disease, wounds, health issue could harm them, but a powerful blow from another deity could surely put their godly presence “at risk”.

(I’ve tried really hard not to use any “mortal death” related words in the comic such as “life”, “kill”, “die”, “death”….O___O)
